It’s hard to believe it’s been more than a decade since I first built RikiTraki. What started as a simple way to collect and share my own GPS tracks slowly grew into something larger, and along the way it picked up old choices, shortcuts, and workarounds that I always wanted to revisit.

This year I finally took the time to rebuild it from the ground up.

Rikitraki renovations on the way!

Wow! I can’t believe it’s been five years since I developed Rikitraki. A lot of things have changed in Web development since then, so I think it is time to implement some sorely needed renovations.

Some of the changes are simply to bring the code up to snuff with today’s best practices. But some other changes will be functionality improvements that I have been thinking about for a long time.

Embedding RikiTraki in your blog or web site

If you have a blog or a web site, it is pretty easy to embed a RikiTraki trail in it, here is how.


You can easily embed a track that you have uploaded to RikiTraki, by using the html iframe tag. Simply insert an iframe tag in your post or page with a link to the trail, like shown in the example below. Notice how it is not merely an image of the track, but the active RikiTraki site which you can fully interact with!
